A former pitcher for the Colorado Rockies and member of the 2004 Boston Red Sox world championship team is facing DUI/DWAI charges after law enforcement officials determined his blood alcohol content (BAC) was over four times the legal limit at the time of his arrest.
Last Monday, law enforcement officials in Altamonte Springs, Florida, received a report of a black Ford pickup truck driving erratically down busy city streets at around 8 p.m.
Responding units soon located the pickup stopped in the middle lane of the road and blocking traffic. Behind the wheel of the truck was Curtis Leskanic, 43, who officers indicated was asleep in the driver's seat alongside his five-year old daughter who was unrestrained by either a booster seat or other child safety device.
Baseball fans here in Colorado more than likely remember Leskanic for his seven seasons as a relief pitcher with the Rockies during the 90s.
In their report, the responding officers noted that Leskanic bore certain indicators of intoxication, including an odor of alcohol and bloodshot/watery eyes. They also indicated that he said he had previously picked his daughter up from practice but was unable to identify a particular location, and that he presented a Major League Baseball (MLB) scout identification card when asked for his driver's license.
After failing the field sobriety tests several times, Leskanic was placed under arrest and charged with drunk driving. In addition, he was also charged with child neglect.
At the station, Leskanic's BAC was measured at .331, more than four times the .08 legal limit in the state of Florida. He was later released after posting a $2,050 bond.
Leskanic's MLB career spanned roughly 11 seasons, and included stints with the Rockies, Milwaukee Brewers, Kansas City Royals and 2004 world champion Boston Red Sox.

Remember, mistakes happen. If you have been arrested for driving under the influence, it is extremely important to speak with an experienced Colorado attorney.
